Spring Into Summer!

Spring Into Summer 08
Article Written By: Amanda Huynh
It feels like the shortest season of the year, the one that comes and goes without notice only to leave you yearning for more. The anticipation, sheer excitement and uninhibited dancing that occur during its reign are uncanny. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to spring and summer for 2008.
The patios are open, the cruises will soon begin, and sure enough, the beach will once again be full of sun-kissed bodies. This is the time of year when some clubs really miss out for not having an outdoor area, where clubbers rejoice for not having to smoke in sub-zero temperatures, and drinking before 5 pm is no longer taboo.
Patio living
Start by taking out your own backyard furniture from the garage, giving it all a good wipe down and turning your winter house into a summer home. Sit, relax and then realize that your sound system is just no match to the wattage available downtown.
From breezy canopies, to fluffy beds, clubbers can dream of paradise islands while staying in their local urban jungle. Those patios that once had a rooftop and heat lamps have shed their cold weather gear for the open sky.
So, ditch those drab, dark colours and reach for something fresh. Coral, turquoise and muted shades of gold are huge this season and look good against any skin tone.
Cruise control
If the idea of dropping a grand on a five day cruise turns your stomach more than shepherd’s pie, why not try its little cousin- the afternoon cruise? Take a tour of your city’s harbour on a party boat. A combination of song, dance and sun is a sure-fire way to enjoy the gorgeous weather.
Remember to drink lots of water, wear your sunscreen, and rock the cruise gear. That’s right, leave the sequins at home and grab a cute bikini top. Swap the skinny jeans for shorts and accessorize with the latest in sunglass fashion. As for men, this is no excuse to whip out the wife beater, unless you’re built like Adonis and bronzed like the sun.
Seriously, fellas, taking off your t-shirt and tying it around your head… not cool.
Hit the beach…
While the sand might not be as white, and the water not as blue, any beach is better than no beach at all. With towel and beer cooler in tow, head over to your local beach and make a day out of it. If you’re feeling adventurous, rent a cottage and stay the weekend. Whatever you do, don’t miss the opportunity because there’s only four long weekends during the warm months.
It’s not wear you go, it’s what you’re wearing…

And the less, the better. Linens, high waisted sailor pants and chiffons have never been more in style. Do not try to combine all three into one outfit, but a few key pieces and a friendly attitude will get far. Perhaps, even line by pass if the doorman’s feeling nice.
Paisley and animal print also this season, again, not together. And for men, grab a straw fedora to protect you from the sun or a bold baseball cap. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like the sport, like Nike says, just do it.
This is a season to drink beer, enjoy the AC, and feel the grass between your pedicured toes. Whether you’re chilling on the beach, sipping margaritas on a patio or sailing away from all your stresses (even temporarily), get off your butt and get out there.
