Club Mayan Los Angeles

CLUB MAYAN: DESCRIPTION

A jewel amid the concrete lofts of modern civilization, the newly renovated Mayan reponed February 1990 in downtown LA. Built in 1927 by leading LA architects Stills clements and designed by Mexican artist Francisco Cornejo as a spectacular Mayan rivival theater, it opened with George Gershwins' musical "oh kay". It is one of the only eight buildings built in pre Colombian style with hand-carved, richly painted walls, a spectacular Sun Caldendar and chandelier.

The Mayan boasts a proud heritage as well facilities unlike any available on the west coast. It is a historical landmark that has been upgraded to include a refinished hardwood stage and dance floor, extensive intelligent lighting, and staye of the art sound equipment. It is multi-faceted gem that brings back to Downtown LA a social and cultural centerpiece where artists observers, celebrants and urban dwellers can congregate in a rich and stimulating environment.
